SC1  Geobiodiversity Database FULL / Registration closed

The Geobiodiversity Database (GBDB, http://www.geobiodiversity.com) is the formal databases of the International Palaeontological Association (IPA) and International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS). Its goal is to facilitate regional and global scientific collaborations focused on regional and global correlation, quantitative stratigraphy, systematics, biodiversity dynamics, paleogeography and paleoecology. The one-day short course will focus on the GBDB and its applications in scientific research and education. The course will consist of a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises. Participants will know how to contribute data, search data, download data and analyze the data. Participants must bring their own laptops or find someone to share with.

SC2  Palaeontology‚ databases and interactive keys‚ a winning combination? FULL / Registration closed

Palaeontology is a historical science that has provided a significant amount of heterogeneous data (descriptive, stratigraphic, geographical, environmental...). To take advantage of the information accumulated over the time, data/knowledge bases and ontologies are the most powerful ways to manage and analyze complex information. The aim of this workshop is to provide an overview of the various computer programs available from computerized data. The emphasis will be on the creation of databases for obtaining interactive identification keys.
